A Bird’s-eye View
Many SDCE residents drive on San Vicente Road to get to work, school, or a grocery store; some do so several times a day. Driving through the busy two-mile long construction site requires a driver’s full attention and may not provide good perspective on the progress already made, but these aerial photos and video should easily compensate for that.
The San Vicente Road Improvement project involves a 2.25 miles long stretch of the windy San Vicente Road, connecting the San Diego County Estates to Ramona, and also the Barona Resort & Casino to Highway 78. The construction site begins at Warnock Drive and ends at Wild Cat Canyon Road.
The construction project will straighten some curves to increase safety, should take 18 months to complete, and costs approximately $22.6 million.
Despite the four fatalities San Vicente Road has seen since January 2009 (unsafe speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, DUI, and improper turning movement), the expensive project is not uncontroversial, as some claim that the widened road will still allow unexperienced and/or trunk drivers to kill themselves, now just at higher speeds.
This short video (4 minutes) provides a bird’s eye view of the construction, as it stands in January 2015 .. looks best, when watched full-screen.
